Leaving a legacy
Are you willing to leave a legacy to Medical Research?
- How many medical breakthroughs can you think of over the last 50 years?
- Have you or your family benefitted from any of them?
- Are you amazed at how far treatments have developed in your lifetime?
- Could you continue to support medical advancements for the future?
LEAVE DEVON AND CORNWALL A LEGACY
Peninsula Medical School Foundation provides funding for world class research here in Devon and Cornwall. The funds we raise are spent here and now on high quality research in our laboratories at Exeter, Plymouth and Truro. As well as contributing to the quality of patient care through research, the funds we spend on research have a beneficial impact on the local economy.
HELPING FUTURE GENERATIONS
This will be the effect of a legacy to support medical research and even more so if the legacy provides research funding in a disease area that has affected you or your family. Making a will is the only way to ensure that whatever you have is used according to your wishes. It also means that your family is not left to cope with complicated legal and financial matters at what will be a difficult emotional time for them.
HOW TO PROVIDE A LEGACY
Before making or changing your Will we strongly advise that you consult your solicitor for professional advice. You can include a Legacy to the Peninsula Medical School Foundation at the time of making your Will or you can add a ‘codicil’ to an existing Will. To remember Peninsula Medical School Foundation in your Will, please consider the following wording:
Residuary bequest (a proportion of your estate)
I give (%) of the residue of my real and personal estate which I can dispose of by Will in any manner I think proper to Peninsula Medical School Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1060423) of The John Bull Building, Research Way, Tamar Science Park, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 8BU and the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or the proper officer for the time being of Peninsula Medical School Foundation shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
Pecuniary bequest (a set amount of money)
I give the sum of ...... pounds to Peninsula Medical School Foundation (Registered Charity No. 1060423) of The John Bull Building, Research Way, Tamar Science Park, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 8BU and the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of Peninsula Medical School Foundation shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
Whichever form of words you use please also add:
If at my death any charity named as a beneficiary in this Will or any Codicil hereto has changed its name or amalgamated with or transferred its assets to another body then my Executors shall give effect to any gift made to such charity as if it had been made (in the first case) to the body in its changed name or (in the second place) to the body which results from such amalgamation or to which such transfer has been made.
Should you wish for your legacy to be used within a specific field of research at the School this must be incorporated into the wording used.
Thank you for making the world a better place...
